El Mar Caribe es un mar tropical del Océano Atlántico, situado al este de América Central y al norte de América del Sur. También se llama Mar de las Antillas. Al Norte están las llamadas Antillas Mayores —Cuba, Haití, la República Dominicana y Puerto Rico—, al Este están las Antillas Menores, al Sur Venezuela, Colombia y Panamá, y al Oeste están México, Belice, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua y Costa Rica.
El Mar Caribe es uno de los más grandes del mundo y tiene un área de unos 2.763.800 km2. El punto más profundo del mar es la fosa de las islas Caimán, ubicada entre Cuba y Jamaica a 7.686 metros (25.220 pies) bajo el nivel del mar. La línea costera del Caribe tiene muchos golfos y bahías: el golfo de Venezuela, el golfo del Morrosquillo, el golfo de Darién, el golfo de los Mosquitos y el golfo de Honduras.
El Mar Caribe se comunica con el Océano Pacíco a través del Canal de Panamá. Es uno de los destinos favoritos para pasar unos días de vacaciones, tanto en una de las islas, como en un crucero visitando varias islas, gracias al buen tiempo (un clima tropical donde hace mucho sol pero también hay lluvias tropicales muy fuertes y a veces hasta huracanes), la belleza de los paisajes y el carácter tan amable y alegre de los habitantes. Y ¿quién no ha escuchado o bailado al ritmo de la música caribeña (la salsa, el merengue, la cumbia, el reggae, la bachata, el mambo, el cha-cha-chá, etc)?

The Caribbean Sea is a tropical sea in the Atlantic Ocean, located east of Central America and north of South America. It is also called the Antilles Sea. The Caribbean Sea communicates with the Pacific Ocean through the Panama Canal. It is one of the favorite destinations to spend a few days of vacation, both on one of the islands, and on a cruise visiting several islands, thanks to the good weather (a tropical climate where it is very sunny but there are also very strong tropical rains and sometimes even hurricanes), the beauty of the landscapes and the friendly and cheerful character of the inhabitants.
